I am the AKS Postdoctoral Fellow at the James Joo-Jin Kim Center for Korean Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

I study civic engagement, education, and public opinion. My book project “Civics without Civics: How Education Models Shape Citizens” primarily uses cross-country and original survey data to investigate how social structures of education models matter for shaping citizens. I show that individuals who learn in more horizontal, student-centered models are consistently more likely to be more engaged citizens than their peers, even when we compare individuals who were randomly assigned education models by lottery.
